Hair Loss Essentials

The foundation panel for anyone investigating hair loss or thinning. Covers the nutritional and thyroid markers most often implicated in reversible shedding, in line with the workup recommended by UK dermatology guidance.

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. We confirm the expected timeframe for your panel at booking.

Advanced Hair & Hormone Check

POPULAR

Our most popular hair panel. Everything in Hair Loss Essentials plus a comprehensive hormonal and inflammatory profile, for patients who need more than the foundation workup.

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. DHT, oestradiol and the wider androgen profile are among the slower ones, so the completion date for this panel is set by those rather than by the routine markers. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

Pre-Transplant Screening

Commonly requested before hair transplant surgery. Confirms medical fitness for the procedure and identifies factors that may affect outcome or healing.

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. We confirm the expected timeframe for your panel at booking.

Pre-Transplant + BBV Screen

Pre-transplant panel plus blood-borne virus screening, often requested by UK and overseas hair transplant clinics before surgery.

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. BBV serology is the slower component and sets the date a surgical team can work to, so book with that in mind rather than the routine markers. Urgent processing may be available on request and is confirmed at booking.

Scarring Alopecia Diagnostic

Specialist diagnostic for scarring alopecia: a scalp punch biopsy with full histopathology report. From £499; the price may vary if additional complexity is identified.

Scalp punch biopsy with histopathology report

The Hormone Specialist

POPULAR

Our most popular hormone panel. A focused assessment of the hormonal axes that drive energy, mood, libido, hair, and body composition.

DHT & androgen panelOestrogen (Oestradiol)Thyroid functionZincCRP

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. DHT, oestradiol and the wider androgen profile are among the slower ones, so the completion date for this panel is set by those rather than by the routine markers. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

Female Hormone Panel

Focused female hormonal axis panel covering FSH, LH, oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin, SHBG and total testosterone. The standard private screen for cycle irregularities, perimenopause investigation, PMOS (formerly known as PCOS) work-up, or any gynaecology-led hormone enquiry. Fasting preferred and morning appointment recommended for the cleanest thyroid reading. Tell us at booking if you are using hormonal contraception.

FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)LH (Luteinising Hormone)OestradiolSHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin)Total testosteroneProgesteroneProlactin

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. Oestradiol and total testosterone are among the slower markers, so the completion date is set by those rather than by the routine ones. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

Adrenal Function Panel

Focused adrenal panel measuring morning cortisol and DHEA-sulfate. Strict timing matters: bloods must be drawn between 8 and 9 AM (10 AM is the absolute latest), after an 8 to 12 hour overnight fast (do not fast longer than 12 hours), to capture the natural cortisol peak. The standard first-line check of how your adrenal glands are working, used to investigate unexplained fatigue, stubborn hair shedding, or androgen-driven hair loss in women.

Cortisol (morning serum)DHEA-sulfate (DHEAS)

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. DHEA-S is sent to a reference laboratory and is the slower of the two markers, so it sets the completion date. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

Testosterone Panel

A focused testosterone panel covering total testosterone, free testosterone and DHT. Drawn 7 to 11 AM after an overnight fast as per BSSM testosterone deficiency guidance, and clinically reviewed.

DHT (dihydrotestosterone)Total testosteroneFree testosterone

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. The androgen markers are the slower ones on this panel, so they set the completion date rather than the routine markers. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

Health screening panels

Comprehensive preventative panels for anyone wanting a clear baseline of their overall health.

General Wellness

Full blood count (FBC)Iron studies (ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, transferrin saturation)Vitamin D & B12Thyroid functionCRP & ESRZinc

⏱ Results are released as each marker is reviewed, rather than held back until the whole panel is complete. Most markers return within about 3 to 5 working days. Vitamin D, B12 and zinc are among the slower markers on this panel, so they set the completion date. Clinician commentary is included. We confirm the expected timeframe at booking.

How to choose the right private blood test

Each panel is designed around a specific clinical question. Start with the question that fits your symptoms or goals. If nothing fits exactly, the custom panel route lets you build your own.

If you are saying...

"You are losing hair"

Start with Hair Loss Essentials for nutritional and thyroid causes. Pair with the Hormone Specialist or Female Hormone Panel if DHT or oestrogen are likely drivers.

If you are saying...

"You feel tired or run down"

General Wellness covers the broad picture. If symptoms also include mood, libido, or weight changes, look at the Hormone Specialist or Adrenal Function Panel.

If you are saying...

"You are preparing for a hair transplant"

Most UK clinics require the Pre-Transplant Screening or Pre-Transplant + BBV Screen. Check with your surgeon which one they need.

If you are saying...

"You suspect a hormone imbalance"

The Hormone Specialist covers the full picture for men and women. The Testosterone Panel and Female Hormone Panel are focused alternatives.

If you are saying...

"You need a confidential STI screen"

The BBV Screen covers HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C in one confidential visit. Add syphilis as a custom marker if needed.

If you are saying...

"You want a baseline check"

General Wellness gives the broadest picture. Repeat annually to track changes over time.

How a private blood test at WMG Health works

From booking to results, the whole process takes a few hours rather than the weeks an NHS pathway can take. Four steps, transparent at every stage.

  1. 01

    Book your appointment

Choose a panel and book online or by phone. Same-day appointments at 134 Harley Street are usually available. No GP referral needed. All-in pricing means you pay one fee that covers everything from blood draw to clinician review.

  2. 02

    Attend the clinic

A short visit, usually under 15 minutes. A trained phlebotomist or GMC-registered clinician takes the sample. Most panels do not need fasting. We send the sample to a UKAS-accredited UK laboratory the same morning.

  3. 03

    Lab processing

The laboratory processes your sample and returns the raw results to our clinical team. Most general markers return within 2 to 4 hours.SHBG is among the slower markers, and because free testosterone is calculated from it, the full picture is not available until SHBG returns. BBV serology takes up to 2 working days; faster options may be available on request depending on the marker.

  4. 04

    Doctor review and report

A GMC-registered doctor reviews your results in the context of your symptoms and history. You receive a written report through the secure patient portal with a clear explanation of every marker, what is normal, what is flagged, and what to do next.

Private blood testing versus the NHS

The NHS does excellent work but is built for the most clinically urgent cases first. Private testing fills the gap when you want a broader panel, a faster answer, or a marker your GP cannot easily request.

Same-day or next-day results

NHS bloods commonly return over several working days, depending on the marker and pathway. WMG Health returns most panels within two to four hours of your appointment, with a written report from a GMC-registered doctor.

No referral needed

You can book any panel directly without a GP referral. If your results suggest follow-up is needed, your written report makes that conversation with your GP straightforward.

Markers the NHS rarely runs

Tests like DHT, free testosterone, full thyroid antibodies, ferritin targeted for hair growth, and DHEA-sulfate are not routinely available on the NHS but are common in private hair and hormone work-ups.

Full clinical context

Routine GP results are often returned as a list of values against a generic reference range. Our reports interpret your numbers in the context of your symptoms, age, sex, and goals, with clear next steps.
